U19’s National League Alliance Division E, 12th October 2022, 1:00pm, Faversham, Kent.

Woking FC (2nd XI) U19’s suffered another league defeat and this time at the hands of Dover Athletic U19’s, as they stole the points right at the death to win the game 3-1. This sees the visitors finding themselves in a position with zero points from their first two games.

The hour and a half coach journey home would’ve been a quiet one, due to Dover U19’s snatching all three points in the final ten minutes of the game. The Cards started off positively and had many chances to put themselves ahead, but it was The Whites who took the lead in the 20th minute when number nine, Trevor Biney managed to find the net. Woking (2nd XI) U19’s kept getting into good areas but ultimately weren’t clinical in the final third.

In the second half, the visitors came out on the front foot straight from the referee’s whistle and got the game all square again when Lewis Myrtollari slipped the ball past Luke Harrison. That’s his fourth goal in his last two games in all competitions. Woking (2nd XI) U19’s continued to stay on top throughout the second forty-five but a mistake between the back four and goalkeeper Joe Hurel lead to the hosts going back in front courtesy of Sonny Roe with ten minutes left on the clock. This goal intervened with The Cards stamp on the game, as they then lost all composure and ultimately found themselves conceding five minutes later through right back Harry Meleady.

Speaking to Woking FC (2nd XI) U19’s coach Bailey Westwood post-match, he said that, “We had numerous chances in both halves to put ourselves ahead but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.”

I later asked him how the two league defeats will affect the team’s confidence going forward in which he responded saying, “We look at every game as a building block and try to take positives out of every game we play. Of course, today there were some negatives but we need to look at those to see how we can improve.”

Next up, Woking (2nd XI) U19’s are back on home soil, as they will take on Welling United FC U19’s National Youth. Dover Athletic U19’s will be on the road to take on Eastleigh FC U19’s Yellow.

In other news, the second round of U19’s National League Alliance Cup Second Round was made on Thursday afternoon by four UCFB Students. Dover Athletic U19’s will be travelling to face Bromley FC Whites U19’s, whereas Woking (2nd XI) U19’s will be at home to Brentford CST U19’s. All ties will be played on October 26th.
