England became the first Men's team in history to hold both the 5o and 2o overs, titles at the same time thanks to a brilliant display in front of 80,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Sam Curran starred with 3-12 as England restricted Pakistan to just 137-8 in the first innings. Adil Rashid chipped in taking a solid 2-22 as England's bowlers helped limit the batters' target. Ben Stokes wrote himself further into the folklore of English cricket by ending on 52 not out to clinch the trophy for The Three Lions for the first time since 2010.

The rain held off at the MCG, which held many Pakistan fans as expected and you could hear the noise throughout from The Shaheens. The frightening pair of Babar and Rizwan was broken early during the powerplay, when the former was bowled out by Curran.

The young, rational Mohammed Haris was next to go when he was caught out by Ben Stokes after many dot balls. Azam was also gone past the halfway mark when Rashid produced a fantastic short catch after bowling to him just moments before. It wasn't until The Three Lions took their fourth wicket just seven balls later, when it was clear that Pakistan's score was not going to be hard to chase. Iftikhar Ahmed was gone for a duck off just six balls to a catch by skipper Jos Buttler.

Shan Masood, Shadab Khan, Mohammed Nawaz and Mohammed Wasim then all fell in fairly quick succession. When you get just 31/4 off the last 5 overs, the chances of a good score became near impossible.

It must be said that at the start of the second innings, Pakistan and Shaheen Shah Afridi gave England a scare when Alex Hales was bowled out in the first over from just two balls faced. Phil Salt was also taken during the powerplay when Haris Rauf's third ball pitching outside off stump again saw Salt push forward and was consequently caught by Iftikhar Ahmed.

Despite Pakistan's disappointing batting show, they really did keep their hopes alive thanks to Rauf as he took Buttler after being caught out by wicketkeeper Muhammed Rizwan.

Youngster Harry Brook started to form a partnership with Ben Stokes but was caught out by Afridi during the 12th over. However, Shaheen seemed to have injured himself in the process by buckling his right knee and went off for treatment. He returned a couple of overs later to bowl at Moeen Ali but felt his knee again and left the field of play for good. A disappointing moment for the young man and it effectively turned the game for England.

Stokes is someone who absolutely thrives under pressure moments and he and Ali struck up a fine partnership, taking 18 runs from four balls towards the back end of the 15th over and the start of the 16th. Just to throw it all open in the air, Wasim bowled Ali with ten balls left to spice up the final few moments. Liam Livingstone and Ben Stokes though, saw it through to clinch the trophy on a magnificent night in Melbourne by five wickets.

What a time to be witnessing English Cricket across all three forms, with some brilliant players still at the top of their game, whilst young talent coming through the system. An unforgettable night in Australia ends with England becoming World Champions!
