A disappointing point was all that Darren Sarll’s team could offer as strugglers Torquay United held his side. A goal from Padraig Amond in the first half wasn’t enough due to Tope Fadahunsi levelling the game in the second 45 minutes.
It was the home side who enjoyed the bulk of the possession in the early stages, although the resolute defending from The Gulls made it hard for any major chances.
Torquay did fashion an opening midway through the half, when the ball found Kieron Evans just outside the box, inviting the Cardiff loanee to volley goalwards, but it went wide over the crossbar.
The Cards created only one real opportunity of note during the first half and that was when Rhys Browne’s cute flick found Amond who finished past Halstead. That’s now three goals in his last four appearances.
HT: 1-0
The stop-start nature to the beginning of the second half denied both sides the chance to exert any authority on proceedings and it wasn’t until just past the hour mark that either team threatened.
When the visitor’s moment came though, they made it count. A high searching ball down the centre saw Tope Fadahunsi race off in pursuit and the on-loan Sutton man hooked the ball over the advancing Craig Ross, into the back of the net.
In the 71st minute, the Torquay goalkeeper got down well to divert substitute Kyran Lofthouse’s 20 yard shot around the post, before surpassing that in injury time with a marvellous save to keep out James Daley’s header from close range.
That was as close as Woking came, with the game ended all square.
FT: 1-1
It would seem that the delayed two-week break didn’t do any favours, but a point is something that we now take into a period that will see The Cards play Saturday/Tuesday for the next seven games.
Within those seven, Include away games at Chesterfield and Wrexham, as well as a home game against Bromley. These are such critical games that will really test the squad with what they’ve got left to give after already surpassing expectations. #COYCards
