On the day that manager Darren Sarll extended his contract to the end of the 2024/25 season, his side put a run of three games without a win to rest as they were victorious at home to Bromley. Goals from Scott Cuthbert and Jim Kellermann helped Woking return to winning ways in their hunt for promotion.

The first chance fell to the home side when a dangerous cross was floated into the box, but Reice Charles-Cook did really well to leap off the ground and collect the ball.

Another dangerous cross moments later found Scott Cuthbert, but he headed narrowly wide from close range.

Out of nowhere, Bromley took the lead when a goalkeeping error from debutant Will Jaaskelainen saw Charley Kendall pick up the ball before slotting it across to Mitchel Bergkamp who buried his first goal for the Ravens on his first start.

Woking supporters were left furious just before half time, when they thought that they should have received a penalty after Padraig Amond beat his man down the right and was taken out in the box, but only a corner was given. It didn’t matter though, as the resulting corner was nodded home by Cuthbert to level the scores.

Only a handful of minutes later and deep into added-on time, The Cards were in front when Rhys Browne kept the ball in play and found Amond, who crossed for Jim Kellermann to head home. What a turnaround!

HT: 2-1

In the second half, Rhys Browne had an opportunity when he was played through on goal, but he sliced his effort into the side-netting. Moments after that, he had a glorious chance but could only find the crossbar from a couple of yards out. To top off an unwanted six minutes, he was then sent off following a challenge on ‘keeper Charles-Cook.

Woking kept pushing on though and James Daly had his own effort when he burst forward before firing low and hard, striking just past the post.

Kyran Lofthouse nearly scored the goal of the season when he had a half-volley from over 30 yards just whistle over the bar.

Right at the very death, Bromley tried a quick switch behind the defence, but Dan Moss was ready to sweep up with a lunge.

FT: 2-1

This was exactly what was needed after Saturday’s defeat and yet again results elsewhere have gone their way. This is significantly the first time Woking have ever beaten Bromley twice in a season. It’s small achievements like this that show how good this side really is.

Woking now passes the 60-point mark and attention will turn to Saturday’s game, at home once more, against Wealdstone. #COYCards
