Woking managed to come from two goals down and steal a point from playoff chasers Boreham Wood. A brace from Rhys Browne cancelled out Josh Rees’s as it was enough to see the hosts avoid defeat at Kingfield.

The visitors had the game’s first chance when Jack Payne played a brilliant pass into Cameron Coxe who attempted to deliver the ball from the right-hand side, but his cross went straight into the arms of Craig Ross.

The Cards’ first sight of goal came when Browne did well to bring the ball down and keep control in the box. He unleashed a powerful shot, but it was palmed away by Nathan Ashmore.

The Wood took the lead just before the half-hour mark which started from a Chris Bush long throw. Woking failed to clear it and it fell kindly to Josh Rees on the edge of the area, who smashed the ball so cleanly past the ‘keeper.

Woking did try fighting back into the game by upping the pressure and were nearly back on level terms when Browne wriggled past a few players in the opposition box, winning a corner. Unfortunately, it didn’t lead to anything.

HT: 1-0

In the second half, Boreham Wood doubled their lead thanks to another fine finish from Rees. The Cards failed to clear the ball and it rolled into the stride of The Wood number seven who calmly slotted it past Ross.

Just three minutes later though, the hosts got one back after Luke Wilkinson saw an effort well saved, but Browne was in the right place at the right time to tuck it home.

He was the man who rescued the day for Woking as once again he scored another to make it 16 league goals and counting. This time he popped up at the back post from a knock across goal following a free kick to make it two apiece.

FT: 2-2

Woking showed great character to get back into the game and with the eventual outcome, a draw was not a bad result. Questions will be asked about finding themselves two goals down and hopefully answers will be found before Tuesday night’s near impossible trip to Hollywood side Wrexham. The Welsh side is yet to drop a single point from their 13 home league games this season, winning all of them.

The fact that there is a small glimmer of hope going into this game shows the massive strides the club has taken this season, however, no one is naive to the fact that the challenge will be the hardest we’ve faced this season. Nevertheless, what an opportunity it is. #COYCards
