U19’s National League Alliance Division E, 2nd November 2022, 11:00am, Woking, Surrey.

Woking FC (2nd XI) U19’s dropped points against Chatham Town Youth Athletic U19’s after losing the lead twice in a fiery encounter in Surrey. The Cards were hoping to add to their win last week against Eastleigh Yellows U19’s but couldn’t hold onto their advantage in the match.

The hosts had the better start, showing good quality and it paid off as Lewis Myrtollari put them ahead. The two teams came into this fixture with really relative form and were also hovering around each other in the league standings. This showed on the pitch as Chatham Town Youth Athletic U19’s equalised through Michael Paton after he managed to beat ‘keeper Joe Hurel.

In the second half, the game turned quite sour and saw right back JJ Ndungu pick up the first yellow card of the game. Woking U19’s used this aggression to take control of the game and did so when Myrtollari scored his brace to put themselves back in front. However, erratic decision-making saw Ndungu pick up a second yellow card and consequently be sent off. This put his side on the back foot for the remainder of the game. The Cards couldn’t hold out with ten men as Paton fired home again to steal a point on the road for The Chats.

Speaking to Woking FC (2nd XI) U19’s coach Bailey Westwood after the game, he said, “We started off really well, retaining the ball and making good forward passes, but unfortunately couldn’t capitalise on more than just the one goal in the first half.” He later on made it clear though that his side has improved by stating, “We’ve seen a massive increase in quality from the group after the previous two games in the other league fixtures.”

The hosts will now prepare for the big derby game next week away to Aldershot Town Alliance U19’s in what will surely be yet another intense game. The visitors on the other hand will be back at home to face Welling United FC U19’s National Youth All.
