Yeovil Town 0-1 Woking – Hard-fought victory for Woking on Sarll’s return

Despite a threadbare squad, Woking came out on top in Darren Sarll’s return to Huish Park. A goal from Kyran Lofthouse was enough to seal the three points and allow The Cardinals to benefit further from results elsewhere.

Grant Smith was called into action early after Marcus Dackers found space and time inside the box, but the Yeovil ‘keeper made a decent double stop to deny him.

Edwin Agbaje had The Glovers’ first chance when he found himself driving into the box and found Jordan Young, but his header was saved by Will Jaaskelainen.

Woking took the lead after a quarter of an hour thanks to a half volley from Lofthouse. The ball fell to his feet and he smashed it home beyond the hopeless Smith. This was the number two’s first goal since September.

The visitors almost doubled their lead moments later when Dackers linked up with Padraig Amond just inside the box, but his effort trickled just wide.

On the half-hour mark, Rohan Ince nearly scored the goal of the season when the ball fell to him from the drop of a cross, to which he connected with it so sweetly, but Smith made an outstanding save.

HT: 0-1

There weren’t many real chances for either side in the second half and it was a very stop-start game. Yeovil did have the better moments though through a free kick that went just over from Young and then some brilliant defending from Dan Moss stopped a counterattack. Other than that, it went really quiet for the majority of the second 45 minutes.

It wasn’t until two minutes into stoppage time that the hosts’ best chance came when Young broke through one-on-one, but his strike flew narrowly wide. Everyone inside the stadium thought it was in, but to Woking’s relief, the goalposts didn’t stretch an extra centimetre to the left.

FT: 0-1

As mentioned, this side did not include guaranteed starters, as it even contained two debutants and a man only making his second appearance since signing in August. Numbers are low but it’s clear that the passion has gone nowhere.

Josh Casey was immense today and has come so far as a player in these past seven months. A real leader for this team and proving his doubters wrong that he can play at this level. Overall, it was a fantastic result for the Surrey outfit, who look like the team that will occupy that third spot until the end of April. 11 to go… #COYCards
